Often, it is difficult to find sufficient information about transaction of comparable companies. As a result market approach is not commonly used in valuation. Moreover, valuer may not be able to find proper companies with similar size or in the same jurisdiction which are comparable to the target. Also, reliability of the transaction data may be questionable. Furthermore, most transaction databases typically provide financial and pricing data but do not explicitly indicate strategic or synergistic reasons involved in transactions. By missing those factors, we may end up comparing apples with oranges. By the same token, market approach is not as flexible or adaptable as other approaches. For instance, it is difficult to include unique operating characteristics of the company or other distinctive values of its intangible assets in this approach.
