In-situ mining is the removal of mineral without physically extracting the rocks. It employs a lixiviant (a solvent) to dissolve the target mineral and draw it out in aqueous form. In-situ mining applies to soluble salts, brine, sulfur and some other kinds of resources. It has environmental advantageous over some surface mining methods.
