RECENT EVENTS
Elderly Video Visit 2020

BMI Appraisals Limited (“BMIA”) is dedicated to caring the minority of the society and actively participates in the community services. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic this year, to order to protect the elderly and lower the chance of infection from the virus, we held a video visiting on 23 Oct 2020, spent a great Friday with the elderly invited by the ELCHK, Shatin District Community Centre for the Golden-Aged and brought our warmest greetings and concerns to all the elderly.

This year, we had sponsored an interactive weight-bearing exercise platform to ELCHK Shatin Multi-Service Centre. On the day of video visiting, we shared the knowledge of precaution of COVID-19, had done the stretching exercise together and finally we had a singing performance for the elderly. We all had enjoyed a meaningful & warm afternoon. Everyone participated enthusiastically and the singing part brought the event to a climax.

Over the years, despite the elderly centre visit, BMIA has constantly participated and made donations to support the non-profit making charitable organizations, such as the Hong Kong Red Cross, The Community Chest of Hong Kong and Children’s Thalassaemia Foundation and so on.

In the future, BMIA will continue to promote the social activities and caring of the minority of the society.

ECONOMIC SUBSTANCE REGULATIONS
ANNUAL OBLIGATIONS
In order to address the EU Code of Conduct Group’s concerns about “economic substance”, some of the governments, says, Bermuda, the British Virgin Islands and the Cayman Islands, have passed legislations that require certain legal entities carrying on “relevant activities” to have “economic substance” in the jurisdiction, which includes having adequate employees and premises for carrying out the management as well as certain filing requirements. Entities are required to submit economic substance notification to update the registered agent’s system and to submit annual return with additional filing fee. Late filing will be subject to government penalties. The annual maintenance fee will be slightly adjusted accordingly.
 
TAX RESIDENCE
“Pure Equity Holding Entity” which only holds equity participations in other entities and only earns dividends and capital gains, will be subject to reduced requirements in meeting the economic substance requirements, which may be satisfied by engaging its registered agent and maintaining a registered office in the jurisdiction.
 
Other entities that carry on relevant activities will be required to report where they are tax resident and to furnish proof of tax residence. Entities which seek to take advantage of another jurisdiction’s zero or low tax regime, such as Hong Kong, will be required to ensure that the substance of the relevant activity is carried on within that jurisdiction.
 
For entities which would like to demonstrate tax residency in Hong Kong, we may assist in registration as non-Hong Kong Company under Part 16 of the Companies Ordinance in Hong Kong and obtaining Certificate of Resident Status from the Inland Revenue Department.
